PMC is one of Pearson’s global technology platforms, globally-distributed instances, multi-tenant, driving the digital transformation for eCommerce and web content. PMC currently processes more than 90% of global Pearson eCommerce revenue and serves over 75% of all Pearson web traffic.
We currently run a large eCommerce platform serving the full-stack, but we want to start to move towards the next-generation of eCommerce architectures – headless, API-first, cloud-native and micro-service based. The right person will be a high performing full-stack engineer with experience on complex applications. They will contribute to Pearson's technical transformation by developing global capability onto the PMC core technical platform. We are looking for someone with passion for technology and a drive to help us move towards our architectural vision. You will be working in a fast paced environment and your day to day responsibilities will include working on project deliverables within a scrum team, support ticket resolution & troubleshooting/debugging issues. There will be opportunity to grow into a full developer position but the importance of driving forward a ‘you build it, you run it’ mentality into the teams is key to this role.
Key Responsibilities
As a full-stack operations engineer you will:

Implement, document and support complex modules using Java, Spring & React

Triage incidents and problems, investigating and identifying root cause and solutioning
-
Focus on reducing recurrence of issues and maintain stability by implementing good monitoring controls
-
Ensure code is of high quality and adheres to non-functional requirements
-
Follow and contribute to the project's technical best practices, development and support standards. Perform code reviews and ensure code developed is flexible and reusable.

Lead/oversee touch-point meetings with various stakeholders and partner application teams and vendor teams on incidents and requests.

Review and automate manual processes to reduce overall ticket volume.

Be proactive in identifying issues and take ownership in helping to resolve them

Communicate effectively across multiple departments and with stakeholders on day-to-day issues.

Collaborate with Technical Lead, Solutions Architects and Enterprise Architects for aspects related to integration with other systems

Strong focus on high quality throughout the entire process, working closely with the Quality Assurance stream
Skills & Abilities:
-
Min 5+ years industry experience
-
Strong Java, Spring & REST API development
-
Full-stack development, using client-side technologies (AngularJS, React or Vue JS)

Experience with troubleshooting, logging and monitoring tools

Exposure/willing to learn complex eCommerce implementations

Excellent understanding of object-oriented programming, design patterns, relational databases, complex integration landscapes & non-functional requirements

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Experience of AWS and microservice architecture (desirable) is a plus
