Bluematrix is hiring a Site Reliability Engineer to join our Level 2 Support Team out of Durham, N.C. office. This position is currently remote due to COVID.

As a Site Reliability Engineer, you will spend your day ensuring all of our applications and operations run in the most efficient manner possible. Your day will primarily consist of troubleshooting issues in production systems and assisting level 1 (phone) support with in-depth technical issues. When time permits you will actively write support applications to automate common tasks such as monitoring, alerting, and reporting.

Working between our Account Managers (client services team) and our core Developers and System Administrators, you will translate colloquial terms into technical specifications and requests.

The ideal candidate will have an operations-oriented mindset; strong communication skills; a proactive attitude; and a knack for technical firefighting, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and problem-solving.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Monitor production systems and take ownership of issues, seeing them through to completion
Providing comprehensive handover when required
Troubleshoot issues, estimate resolution effort, and verify fix functionality
Create reports, one-off scripts, and custom work as needed (estimate effort and write quotes)
Identify and investigate patterns of failures; rebuild scenarios for intermittent failures that can be regularly reproduced
Build tools as needed to perform daily duties more quickly/efficiently
Assist in client support as an advisor for technologically challenging issues – provide technical backup to co-workers as needed
Run automated jobs and verify results
Flexibility to work occasional evening or weekend hours

MUST-HAVE SKILLS

Educational background in computer science or equivalent
At least 3 years experience with Java and SQL
Knowledge of common Software Development Life Cycles (SDLC)
Web fundamentals like HTML, CSS, XML
Understanding of basic security concepts (HTTPS, Certificates)
Experience working in LINUX environments
Knowledge of a scripting language (preferably Perl and or Python)

PREFERRED SKILLS

Tomcat, ActiveMQ, MySQL
Experience with monitoring tools like CheckMK and Prometheus
Experience with tools, such as Git, Ansible, Sonar
Experience with the Elastic Stack
Comfortable working with change management systems (JIRA)
Familiar with GIT
High availability
Knowledge of the financial services industry (or passion to learn)
